  1. Workers' Educational Association,(WEA)
  2. British organization founded 1913 to provide
  3. adult education. It had its origins in
  4. classes on cooperation organized by Albert
  5. Mansbridge, a clerk at a cooperative store
  6. near Toynbee Hall, where meetings were held.
  7. Funding was obtained from the Co-operative
  8. Union, trade unions, local education
  9. authorities, the Board of Education, and
  10. universities. The WEA used a tutorial system
  11. that drew on lecturers in higher education
  12. and more recently its activities have
  13. depended upon the extramural departments of
  14. universities.
  15.
